Science gcse questions - help me pleasse (lampposts)?

1) what are the risks and benefits of lampposts that break on impact?

2) why are bendy lampposts being developed instead of breakable ones in the city?

3) what might the risk of a lamppost that is hinged and buckles on impact?

4) how can drivers reduce the risk of a dangerous collision with a lamppost?

5) what mist road managers weigh up against the possible benefits of these types of lampposts?

6) why are breakasble lamppost not designed to break when hit by cars slower than 22mph?

7)why do crumple zones on cars help to save lives?

8) why might flexible lampposts be dangerous to pedestrians in built up areas?

9)suggest 3 factors that scientists need to control to make a fair test when evaluating the safety of different types of lamppost

Lost my ideas in context paper, I know a few of the answers but I just want to make sure they’re all correct as science is my worst subject and I want to pass it for GCSE!

Pleeeease help me and answer all the ones you can with the question number beside it. Some you might not get because you need some information blah blah, just answer the ones you can pretty please (:

Science gcse questions - help me pleasse (lampposts)?
1) benefit of breakable lampost = provides some cushioning if it is hit by a vehicle (although small) and therefore reduces impact force (as there is a longer time taken for the car to stop. risk = if it breaks certain elements may be sticking out e.g. shards of metal that may pose a danger ( not to mention its interior electronics)

2)hitting a bendable lamp post forces it to bend beneath the car, it increases the time taken for a car to stop by a large amount and so decrease impact force and chances of iinjury/death

3)?? rephrase

4)maybe when driving at night they should avoid driving along roads that have broken lamp posts e.g. ones with no light

5)http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/technology/33...

6)when hit by a car at such a low speed the risk of serious injury are far less

7)again - increase time for the car to stop completely, therefore reduces impact force; therefore reduces injury

8)maybe if they're built wrongly/ put in place wrongly or in bad weather periods they have a higher risk of falling done lol.

9)

use them same car

use the same model / brand of lamp post

have the cars hit at the same speed

hope this helped!!!
