Confederate flag ban in SC school?

There is a little girl challenging her schools ruling of banning anything with the Confederate flag on it. I.E. Belt buckles, t-shirts and more. Should this be? Isn't this a violation of her 1st amendment rights?

Confederate flag ban in SC school?
yes, but if it causes a disruption in class then the teacher has the right to ban it.... to some the confederate battle flag is a sign of being racist, too me its a way of life a long time ago and one to cherish and to be proud of !!its a battle flag of a defeated country that was torn apart just as much about the way of life for the south as it was for its meaning !!!
Reply:I personally think that it should not be banned anywhere. However, I do feel that schools have a right to ban it if it has caused a fight in the past, which I believe has been upheld in court.
Reply:first of all i'm black. second, the confederate flag and meanings are different from person to person. I understand why a black girl (i'm assuming she is black) would want this to be banned. THe reason why maybe from a long time ago back in pre and post civil war. That was a long time ago and i think its time to move on and focus on more things like why martin luther king died and why we are should be thankful for being able to go school and not have to sit in the back of a bus anymore. I live in arkansas and before that mississippi and i love living in the south and to me thats what i associate the confederate flag with not anything negative. I know white guys that i went to school with and even today all the wear is confederate flag t-shirts and cowboy boots and are just country to their heart...and their cool *** hell! Every person I guess associates that damn flag to many things....its 2006..think positive and lets all get out of the past...it only holds us back! Its refreshing to see a little girl take on a big issue and challenge someone and has caused quite a stir. I hope all goes well with her and what she stands for ya know.....voicing her opinion and trying to change something...you can't knock her for that!
Reply:im not sure about her first ammendment right but they do have the right in school to wear whet they want as long as it meets dress code which doesnt say anything about rebel flags. it would be denying her of her hearatage mexican kids get to wear sruff with their flag on it(nobody says anything) some children dont say the pledge because of their religion (nobody says anything) so why should we have to change?
Reply:It depends on what color you are..

I personally think that this is just as much of a historical fact as was when they brought slaves over to the U.S... The flag should be on every corner of every southern town.

Course they do not tell the turth about this either. Most slaves were sold to their slave masters by their borthers and father's or, the tribal chief as well.

If you go outside of the U.S. there is a whole new set of rules that they go by.
Reply:In my personal opinion it is! I dont know NC law though. It should be a first ammendment issue!
Reply:I currently live in the North ( YUP a Yankee)I am a big fan of the South and feel that the confederate flag is not about anything but Southern Heritage. It is a big part of your past and should not be banned. The Confederate Flag is a part of your history dont let anyone take your history away from you!
