My knee buckled and hurt in the middle of doing squats, help??

I have been an athlete since i was 3, I am now 22, and I lift 5 days a week and run daily. Yesterday in the weight room I was squatting and on the 3rd set of middle/heavy weight my knee almost gave out. I stopped and tried to walk and I couldnt put any pressure on my knee, it wouldnt bend. It felt like if I bent my knee it was going to pop out or something. I walked it off for a few mins and 20 mins. later tried lungs, and the same thing happened, I had to sit down it hurt so bad. What could be wrong with my knee?

Sounds like you tore the meniscus in your knee. Squatting is very hard on the meniscus, and we've had 2 torn in our family doing that. Is your knee clicking when you bend it? or giving out when you walk? A little swollen?
Reply:You definately did something to your knee. I would get to a knee dr and get it checked out
Reply:You did something for sure, Probably torn/pulled something. I would go to the doctor before you workout more you could cause serious perment damage.
Reply:You could've torn some ligaments or possibly sprained it. The best thing to do is have it checked out. For the time being, keep pressure off the leg/knee and ice.
Reply:hi you may have you your meniscus in your knee the same thing happened to me only i was playing baseball and basketball when it happened it has happend to me three different times so i guess the first time i did it it weakend some ligaments in my knee so it is less stable the first time i did it it recovered in a couple of days but then it happend again the recovery time takes longer each time and after the third time i could barely walk for 2-3 weeks my knee hurt so bad my best advice to you is to get a good knee brace because if you did hurt your meniscus like i did it will probably happen again it has not happened to me again since i bought a good knee brace and i have been using it for about a year now.
