Why do men's and women's pants buckle on the opposite sides?

Because fancy women used to have maids to dress them, so the buttons were put on the side more convenient for the right-handed (most people are right handed) maids. Men dressed themselves.

Why do men's and women's pants buckle on the opposite sides?
The are pants that do and do not buckle on the opposite sides. However, the ones that do are more a function to distinguish the opposite sex. It all goes back to function, form and style and what the majority of people do.
Reply:Clothes do it as well - women's jackets often zip up on the opposite side.

Not totally sure why this is.. I guess they think more women are left handed. o.o
Reply:that's not necessarily true. i work at a very well known retail store, and the pants buckle the same way for both.
Reply:haha, because they need to hide it when it gets hard.

Duhh.
Reply:to distinguish them.
