i always go by william. my apologies to those that answer to Bill, but i always thought it was a redneck-sounding name. i picture guys named Bill with cowboy hats, belt buckles the size of small plates, and a little river of chewing tobacco spit oozing down their chins. i think William is a more dignified name. agree or disagree?
William or Bill?
I agree....William is very dignified and old fashioned name. And I love your sterotype...I agree with in completly.
Reply:My brother's name is William. We call him Will....he hates Bill.
Reply:I like William....or Will.
Reply:Well William does sound more sophisticated or formal maybe I should say. But I prefer Will.....does that sound redneck to you too? You don't hear the name Will very often %26amp; I think it is a nice change from Bill. Just my opinion.
Reply:Bill.
Reply:william
Reply:Agree. William is so much classier in my opinion as well. I don't like "Bill."
Reply:I still can't figure out how from William someone got Bill... or Jim from James... or Jack for John (as in the president)...
I have an uncle named Bill, love him... didn't know he was a william until I was 18 or so =) LOL.
I'd say disagree only because I have met a lot of Bills who are not even close to being redneck.
Reply:William
Reply:william
Reply:William. Where does "Bill" come from anyway?
Reply:I agree. I don't like nicknames.
Reply:WILLIAM
Reply:I don't like either, but William is better than Bill.
But I think Will is better than William.

Can I have a handbag dry cleaned??
I have a beautiful white Guess handbag - not 100% sure of the exact fabrics it's made of but it's a mix of material, leather (if it is leather), and also has big silver buckles on it. Only problem is, the white material has clearly got stains on it now. If I took it to a dry cleaners would they be able to do it for me?? Thanks!
Can I have a handbag dry cleaned??
Have you tried cleaning it yourself, first? It saves a lot of money. Try checking your bag's tags, because they usually have cleaning instructions.
Reply:Why not go to a Guess shop and take your bag there and aske them what the best way to clean it..Im sure they know..and can help you there..
Reply:lol, you have made my day :)
Reply:why not save time and ask the dry cleaners direct!?
Reply:I have a Guess bag too, though it is grey. Normally there will be a number or something you can call if you have any problems (I have a Mulberry and Chloe bag that have), if not then I am sure that dry cleaners can clean it for you. you can only ask!

Please help with this question, and explain?!?
a railroad track runs perfectly straight for exactly one mile assume that the two ends are fixed but the track expands by one foot and buckles up in the shape of an arc of a circle how far is the middle of that arc off the ground
Please help with this question, and explain?!?
Draw the situation and work on one side of the middle line.
Let the angle at the centre of the circle be A.
You have 2640.5 = R*A (providing A is in radians)
Also 2640 = R*sinA (A still in radians)
These together give
2640.5/A = 2640/sinA
2640.5*sinA = 2640*A
This equation cannot be solved exactly by algebra but since we assume the angle is small it is reasonable to replace sinA by its approximation of A - (A^3)/6 (only in radians).
This gives
2640.5*(A - (A^3)/6) = 2640*A
1 - (A^2)/6 = 2640/2640.5
(A^2)/6 = 1 - 2640/2640.5 = 0.00018936
A^2 = 6*0.00018936 = 0.0013615
A = sqrt(0.0013615) = 0.033707
This is a small angle and justifies the approximation used.
Using this figure we can now work out that the radius of the circle is 2640.5/0.033707 = 78337.3 ft
We can now use pythogoras to find the distance from the centre of the circle to the ground level = 78293.8 ft
This gives the height of the centre of the arc as
78337.3 - 78293.8 = 44.5 ft.
Three comments on your additional notes.
1 Two top contributors using different methods come to exactly the same answer.
2 Yes, the result is surprising, but that doesn't make it wrong.
Old fashioned railway tracks were laid in short stretches with gaps between them for precisely this reason. Modern track uses longer lengths but it is fixed down very securely so that although it wants to expand it can't. I have seen photographs of old track which experienced freak hot weather. It had buckled into a very curly S shape and that's with a lot less than a mile length.
3 I have a lifetime's experience of teaching advanced mathematics. What do you have - intution? If you think that we are both wrong then show us why!
Reply:Thank you for the time it took you to help me with this. I still cant wrap my brain around the 45 foot height. I am in integral calculus right now, but this is for another class. any insight as to how i can make my brain believe this haha?:) Report It
Reply:I think that since it is extended by 1 foot, the arc would have a 1 foot perimeter. The arc would also be half the circumference of a whole circle. What you are trying to find in this problem is the radius of the circle. So use:
C=2πr
(1 foot)*2=2πr
You multiply C by 2 because the arc is only half the circumference, not the whole.
Solve for r and that is your answer.
Reply:See the link below for all symbols used.
Using the approximation:
s² = c² + (16/3)h²
solve for h
h ≈ 44.5 ft
Alternately, we can solve two equations in two unknowns to find R and θ.
5280 = 2 * R *sin(θ/2)
5281 = R * θ
R ≈ 78335.08050
θ ≈ 0.06741551762
Then use:
R = h + R * cos(θ/2)
and solve for h.
h ≈ 44.5 ft

What category of failure do we encounter when we deal with buckling?
tension stress failure specially in concrete. could also cause torque and shear stresses
What category of failure do we encounter when we deal with buckling?
I went out tonight looking for agirl to "buckle" with but I failed, now I sitting at home messing around on YA
It was a bit if a blow to my ego.

Are chain letters real?
Really terrified read this:
""Hi, I am Niecy. Once you read this you cannot get out. Finish reading this
until it is done! As I said, I am Niecy. I am 7 years old. I have no eyes
and blood all over my face. I am dead. If you don't send this to at least 12
people I will come to your house at midnight and I'll hide under your bed.
When you're asleep, I'll kill you.
Don't believe me?
Case 1:
Patty Buckles
Got this e-mail. She doesn't believe in chain letters. Well, Foolish Patty.
She was sleeping when her TV started flickering on and off. Now she's not
with us anymore. Ha ha patty, Ha ha! You don't want to be like Patty, do
you?
Case 2:
George M. Simon
Hates chain mail, but he didn't want to die that night. He sent it to 4
people. Not good enough George. Now, George is in a coma, we don't know if
he'll ever wake up. Ha ha George, Ha ha! Now, do you want to be like George?
Case 3:
Valarie Tyler
She got this letter. Another chain letter she thought. Only had 7 people to
send to. Well, T
Are chain letters real?
Chain letters are gay.
Reply:these are not real......but lock your door just incase :D
Reply:Chain letters are not real. They are made up... all the time. They spread from the inventor to their friends to their friends' friends, etc. Don't believe them, i get a bunch and i never send it, i'm not dead and i'm not in a coma. Trust me, some people find it fun to spread these things...
Reply:Yeah she's been living under my bed for about 4 years. Luckily i have a drawer that i can lock her in under my bed. Haha You hear that Niecy? i'm laughing at you. Damn she's getting fiesty again. Excuse me while i attend to her.
Reply:chain letters are not needed. Chain letters are reaally stupid actually.
Reply:well um I've read a bazillion of those and i haven't posted a single one of course they're not real
Reply:No...
I got the same one but the name wasn't Niecy, it was Timmy %26gt;.%26lt;!
Another one was Teddy.
What's with all of these dead seven year olds with no eyes? Shouldn't they be in a sandbox somewhere? =P
Besides, I would be dead over a thousand times by now.
And I would have horrible relations with close friends.
